Coached, not just organised

Our coaches design and deliver the club's training plan for seniors, masters and juniors, supported by qualified Leaders in Running Fitness.

Between them our two lead coaches bring over fifty years of coaching experience, from first-time runners through to Olympians and Paralympians. That is unusual for a club of our size, and it is the reason our sessions are structured rather than simply organised.

They set the training plan across the season, and are supported on the ground by an Assistant Coach for our juniors and a team of qualified Leaders in Running Fitness who take groups at every pace.

Our coaches

Two lead coaches setting the plan, and an Assistant Coach for our youngest athletes.

  • Club Coach

    Nick Anderson

Nick has over 25 years of coaching experience at all levels and has been a runner since the age of 10. He is a graduate in Science & Management of Health & Fitness, a UKA level 4 endurance coach, a qualified nutritionist and a sports therapy practitioner. Nick has been an England Athletics flying coach and manages GB squads for events such as the World Half Marathon Championships. Having coached hundreds of athletes from beginners through to Olympians, he is one of Europe's most highly respected coaches. Nick is former England Marathon Lead and England Regional Coaching Lead for the South.
  • Club Coach

    Andy Parkinson

Andy brings over 27 years of coaching experience from a variety of sports. He has an MSc in Sport & Exercise Psychology and gained accreditation as a BASES Sport and Exercise Scientist. Working with athletes across a wide range of abilities and experience, from club level to Paralympic, Andy has helped them manage the mental aspects of their performance. He understands the challenges athletes face balancing training and performance with other commitments. He is an active competitive runner in his own right, running all distances from 5k to the marathon. Andy is a level 4 Strength and Conditioning Coach and a UKA Endurance Group coach.
  • Assistant Coach — Juniors

    Colin McManus

Colin is a qualified Assistant Coach who works with our most junior athletes, with responsibility for the "pocket rockets". He believes sport gives young people a fantastic opportunity to gain experiences and learn skills that will matter throughout their lives. He ran in his youth for a local club and returned to the sport in his twenties; trail and mud are his favourite places to run, though he competes on the road and has been tempted back onto the track by an empty club record book. Colin also sits on the committee as Senior and Masters Representative — a separate role, not connected to his coaching — and helps organise the club's annual trip to the Welsh Castles Relay.
