Everything the club is doing

Training sessions, races, leagues and socials in one place. Use it to plan your season — and if you are signed in you can mark what you are planning to do, and see which other members are going. Handy for lifts, and for knowing who you will be running with.

Autumn to summer

Road racing

The Hampshire Road Race League is twelve races from September to July, five miles to half marathon, spread across the county. You enter through the organising club and your result counts for Winchester.

Last season we won all four divisions. Alongside it we score our own Grand Prix in two versions — one on finishing position, one age-adjusted — so it is worth doing whatever you run.

September to March

Cross country

CC6 is seven Sunday mornings through the winter, free to members, and the friendliest introduction to racing we have. The field covers every pace and nobody finishes alone.

The Hampshire Cross Country League is the more serious winter fixture, with races for every age group from juniors to veterans — the one day the whole club turns out together.

Wednesday evenings, spring and summer

Off-road, after work

RR10 is free evening racing organised between the clubs of south-west Hampshire — four to five miles off-road, every pace from five to twelve minute miling.

Turn up, run, go home. It is the lowest-commitment racing in the calendar and a good first race if you have never pinned a number on.

First Thursday of the month

And our own

The Harestock Handicap runs on the first Thursday of the month, in place of the senior session. The slowest start first, so in theory everybody finishes together and anyone in the club can win — free to enter, and no advance sign-up.

Team relays take us further afield: Welsh Castles, the South Downs Way, the Cotswold Way, and the national and southern road relay championships.

The talks series

Through the darker months we run a series of evening talks at South Downs Social. Coaches and specialists — physiotherapists and the like — alongside members sharing their own experience. One recent evening covered racing beyond the marathon: what those events take, and why anyone would want to do one.

Talks are open to members and their guests.

Elsewhere in the calendar: the awards dinner in December, the Christmas relays, and kit nights with Alton Sports. If you would like an event added, email membership@winchesterrunningclub.org.uk.
