Training
Two coached sessions a week — Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00pm. Juniors and middle-distance athletes train at 5:45pm. No booking needed, and your first three sessions are free.
The club programme
Both coached sessions run for about 75 minutes. You train in one of four or five pace groups, led by qualified run leaders, and nobody gets left behind. There is no booking — turn up a few minutes early and introduce yourself. If you have never been, read what happens at your first session.
Athletes aged 8 to 19 train earlier the same evenings, in the junior section.

On the first Thursday of the month the senior session is replaced by the Harestock Handicap — free, and juniors continue at Gaterfield as usual. Bring trainers, a water bottle and layers; spikes or off-road shoes are useful on grass but not essential to start with.

Next weekHow we coach
If you want to be a better runner tomorrow, you are a performance athlete.
Coaching is delivered in partnership with RunningWithUs, supported by a team of assistant coaches, run leaders and coaches in running fitness who take the groups and guide your running. You can read about them on our coaches page.
Sessions are structured across the season rather than improvised, and members can see the whole plan in the RunClub HQ app — what is on each week, where to be, and the races and events coming up.
Please do ask the coaches questions about your training — that is what they are there for.

Through the year
The shape of the week stays the same, but the venues move. Once the evenings draw in and the ground turns — usually around October, though we play it by the weather — the senior sessions shift to Winchester South Park and Ride on Tuesday and St Catherine's Hill on Thursday for road and hill work, while juniors stay at Gaterfield. Through the lighter months everything is back at Gaterfield, with more track and middle-distance work.
After heavy rain Gaterfield floods and sessions relocate at short notice — changes go out in the club WhatsApp group, so it is worth a look before you set off. Every venue, with parking and what to bring.
