How it works
Three steps, and you can stop after any of them.
1. Register
Give us your email and we'll send you a link. It takes a minute, there is nothing to pay, and it means someone is expecting you when you arrive.
2. Come and train
Tuesday or Thursday at 7:00pm. Come up to three times and see how you find it. You do not need to be a member, and there is nothing to pay.
3. Subscribe
When you decide it is for you, finish your membership and pay online. Same account, so there is nothing to key in twice.
Is this the right club for you?
We are a performance club. That does not mean everyone here is fast — it means everyone here is trying to get better, and the training is built around that.
You will fit in if you are already running regularly and you want to get quicker, race more, or train with other people rather than on your own. Sessions are coached and structured — repetition work on Tuesday, threshold on Thursday. If you have never been, here is exactly what happens at your first session.
Will I be out of my depth? Sessions run in pace groups, usually four or five of them, and there is always a slower group — we have members still racing in their seventies. That group is not a consolation prize, either: it is where anyone doing a lighter session that week ends up, whatever they run on a good day. And on a repetition session everyone works for the same distance or the same time rather than at the same speed, so you are running your own effort rather than chasing somebody else. Nobody gets left behind.
If you are starting from scratch, we are not the right first step, and we would rather say so than waste your evening. Winchester parkrun on a Saturday morning is free, friendly and the best place to begin. Come back to us once you are running regularly — plenty of our members did exactly that.
Beyond that there is no qualifying standard and no minimum pace. Our members run from national-standard athletes to people who took up the sport in their fifties. 145 of our 253 members are 35 or over, and we score an age-graded championship alongside the main one precisely because getting better means something different at every age.
Subscriptions
Fees for the 2026/27 membership year. In setting them we balance the cost of running the club, the need to hold a reserve, uncertainty over facilities, and affiliation fees. They are reviewed annually.

But most of all, we provide a community where you will feel supported to become the runner you want to become.
The detail
Membership year
Our membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March, and fees are due in full on 1 April. Fees are pro-rated for new joiners during the year. Anyone joining the club for the first time between January and March is charged the current 12-month subscription (plus England Athletics affiliation), but their renewal date is set to the following 31 March — so they can get up to 15 months of membership for the price of 12.
England Athletics affiliation
All competing members must be affiliated to England Athletics. This is a separate annual fee and cannot be pro-rated. It is normally charged by, or included in the membership fee of, your first-claim club, and should only be paid to one England Athletics club in any membership year — so if you are joining Winchester Running Club mid-year and have already affiliated with another club, we will not need to charge you.
Subscription support
Winchester Running Club does not believe anyone's financial circumstances should prevent them from being the runner they want to be. Please contact us to discuss alternatives if you wish to join but cannot afford these fees.
Changing your first-claim club
